UK’s oldest privately-owned bank establishes regional presence with high net worth advisor hire

May 6, 2021

Privately-owned bank C. Hoare & Co. has appointed high net worth client specialist Emily Corbett as a senior relationship manager to lead its growth in the South West.

The appointment forms part of the London-based bank’s broader strategy to expand its presence and customer base in the UK’s regions and follows the launch of an office in Cambridge in 2019 – its first outside London in 350 years.

C. Hoare & Co., the UK’s oldest privately-owned bank, is initially targeting Bristol and Bath in its push into the South West.

The bank has a number of historic links with the region. ‘Good’ Henry Hoare, the son of the bank’s founder Sir Richard Hoare, was instrumental in founding the Royal Mineral Water Hospital in Bath while Jane Austen was one its more famous customers.

It described the cities as growing entrepreneurial hubs with thriving professional communities and offering significant opportunities, given the bank’s personal service and focus on building deep customer relationships.

It also anticipates strong demand for its specialist arts, culture & media and landed estates offerings in the region.

Emily, pictured, has joined C. Hoare & Co. from Handelsbanken in Bath, where she spent 13 years, most recently as an individual account manager with a portfolio of high net worth individuals.

She has more than 25 years’ banking and relationship management experience having also held various roles at Barclays, including premier banking manager and branch manager positions.

At Emily, who is a registered regulated relationship manager, will be responsible for building C. Hoare & Co’s presence and developing business opportunities across the South West. She will report to its banking team leader Peter Gale.

C. Hoare & Co. partner Venetia Hoare said: “The Hoare family has enjoyed close connections with the region dating back many centuries.

“Following our successful recent expansion into Cambridge, we believe now is the right time to build out our UK footprint.

“The South West is a natural progression. Emily brings a wealth of expertise and established relationships in the region and I much look forward to working with her.”

The bank, which employs around 400 people at its Fleet Street headquarters and branch in Knightsbridge,  said it expects to make further key regional hires this year.
