Specialist Bristol animation studio A Productions has worked on a series of videos supporting young people’s and families’ emotional wellbeing for the global organisation behind Sesame Street.

A Productions, which has previously animated a number of Sesame Street specials, was commissioned by Sesame Workshop to produce three films featuring favourite characters from the iconic kids’ educational TV programmes.

Launched during US Mental Health Awareness Month, the multi-platform initiative includes a range of activities, a series of bi-lingual videos and a digital story book.

A Productions provided animation services for Brain Food, Bedtime Meltdown and Twiddlebigs Get Moving – which address the connection between mental and physical health with a focus on nutrition, sleep and movement.

An additional five videos animated by A Productions will be launched next month covering topics including soothing big feelings with Big Bird to learning self-compassion with Rosita.

A Productions’ previous Sesame Street specials include Sesame Street presents The Nutcracker: Starring Elmo & Tango, Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy, and The Monster at the End of This Story, which was nominated in the Best Longform category of the 2022 British Animation Awards (BAAs).

A Productions joint managing director Katherine McQueen said: “It’s been a pleasure working with Sesame Workshop again to create these new animated resources that support the emotional wellbeing of young children and families.

“It’s been wonderful to create these shorts that can make a difference to children’s lives as part of our ongoing relationship with Sesame Workshop.”

Founded in 1985 and now based across two studios in Bristol, A Productions makes iconic children’s content for TV and film for audiences in the UK and around the world.

It has grown rapidly over the past five years, providing animated content for broadcasters and subscription video on demand providers, including CBeebies, CITV, Channel 4, MAX and Sky.

These include award-winning JoJo & Gran Gran, the first UK pre-school animation to centre on a Black British family. which is produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions for CBeebies.

Following French animation powerhouse Cyber Group Studios’ acquisition of a majority stake in the firm two years ago, A Productions has been developing its own original creator-driven content as a key plank in its long-term growth strategy.
