Regional law firm Michelmores has gained double recognition in a prestigious private wealth awards scheme, winning the Law Firm of the Year – UK category while one of its partners landed the Lawyer of the Year title.

The firm, which recently relocated its expanding Bristol office, triumphed in the CityWealth Magic Circle Awards, which have been running for nearly two decades and are a key feature in the private wealth sector calendar, celebrating the leading advisers and firms.

The awards are judged by a panel of private wealth advisors along with an online public voting to garner support from the shortlisted firms’ and individuals’ peers.

As well as landing the Law Firm of the Year – UK trophy – a category in which Bristol-headquartered Burges Salmon was runner up – Iwan Williams, a partner in Michelmores’ tax, trusts & succession team, also took home the accolade for Lawyer of the Year.

This award recognises the excellent client relationships he has nurtured and the trusted advice he gives to numerous high net worth individuals and families.

Iwan, pictured, who joined Michelmores a year ago to head its Cheltenham office, deals with all aspects of estate and succession planning and has extensive experience in a wide range of succession and tax matters.

Michelmores managing partner Tim Richards said he could not be prouder of the team following the double victory.

“Our private wealth group are long-standing, trusted advisors to numerous high net worth individuals and families in the UK and internationally and work tirelessly to provide creative solutions for our clients and their nuanced requirements,” he added.

“It is fantastic to see the exceptional experience and exemplary client service that the team provide, recognised by our industry peers at such a prestigious event.”

Head of the firm’s private wealth group, Christian Massey said he was delighted to see Iwan cap off his first year at Michelmores with “well-deserved recognition for the exemplary service he delivers for his clients and for his colleagues alike”.

Iwan described himself as being “absolutely delighted, astonished and humbled” to have won Lawyer of the Year.

“It was such a lovely surprise and deserving recognition for the entire team after a year of outstanding growth and success throughout the private wealth group at Michelmores,” he said.

The awards ceremony in London was attended by professionals from more than 140 organisations, including law firms, trust companies, family offices, tax advisers and investment managers.

CityWealth founder, CEO and editor Karen Jones said: “Congratulations to all the shortlisted individuals and organisations – they are absorbing the impact of world changes and digesting them in a manageable format for their clients.”

Michelmores employs more than 450 people across its network of four offices, which also includes Exeter and London.
