Dept of Health calls in Bristol agency EMO to work on Stoptober campaign

October 5, 2012

Bristol specialist marketing agency EMO is taking the lead role in getting communities engaged in the Department of Health’s national Stoptober stop smoking campaign – the latest in a series of high-profile wins for the firm and further proof of the city’s burgeoning creative sector talent.

EMO, which works with blue-chip clients such as Tesco, Toyota and Jaguar, specialises in helping organisations and their local networks get closer to a target audience in local communities.

This approach has been a critical success factor for the Stoptober campaign – a 28-day mass participation event across the UK to get smokers to quit for the month of October.

It has a strong focus on grassroots awareness activity in local communities, galvanising interest among smokers to take action to quit.

EMO was chosen to provide local marketing activity across the country, including a nationwide tour of key cities with the Stoptober wheel, as seen on the national TV ads.

EMO director of planning Martin Newnham, who leads on the Stoptober campaign for the agency, said: “The fact that Government departments such as the Department of Health are coming to Bristol and to EMO is testament to our expertise as a creative marketing agency, but also to the growing reputation of Bristol and the South West as a centre of excellence for creative industries.

“The London-centric nature of the industry has shifted considerably in recent years, as brands and organisations recognise the talent that exists outside the capital.”

EMO, which employs 140 staff, moved to the Bristol’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone in April, joining a growing number of agencies in the creative industries which have recognised the advantages of moving to the city.
