Fast-growing Chinese restaurant and takeaway chain Hotcha is to open a restaurant in Yate Shopping Centre as it continues its ambition to be the UK’s number one takeaway chain within the next few years.

A planning application has been submitted for change of use of the former electrical showrooms in North Parade which, if successful, will become open in late summer.

Hotcha, the UK’s only Chinese takeaway chain, has already opened seven outlets in its first year in business Hotcha – six in Bristol and one in Weston-super-Mare.  Two are planned to open soon in Swindon.

Founder James Liang, pictured, intends to open 300 across the UK over the next five years.

Yate Shopping Centre Manager Andrew Lowrey said: “We have always wanted to extend the range of eateries and nightlife offers in the centre and we feel this complements our existing establishments.

“The North Parade units have been vacant for some time so it is good news that they will be occupied. We have submitted a planning application for their change of use and for some external changes as it is important such a change gets a prominent visibility from the surrounding areas.”

Last week centre owners Dominion Corporate Trustees (DCT) announced plans to extend it by adding a £12m leisure quarter with a cinema, restaurants and new retail units.

Two of the three new retail units in East Walk, Costa Coffee and Sports Direct, are scheduled to open next week with Marks & Spencer Simply Food following in June. There will be further announcements about other plans coming forward in the next few weeks.
