Ambitious Bristol firms are being invited to join a free workshop in the city next week to learn more about how they can enter the prestigious King’s Awards for Enterprise scheme.

The event, on Monday 22 April, will offer advice on how to apply along with tips on how build a strong application to achieve a coveted award.

Representatives from The Department of Business and Trade, which provides the secretariat for the King’s Awards, will be on hand for advice.

The workshop, which takes place between 3pm and 5pm at Triodos Bank UK’s head office on Deanery Road, will also include a brief overview of the benefits and competitive advantage of receiving the award and the role of the Lieutenancy and success stories from previous local winners.

The awards are for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of:

  • Promoting opportunity through social mobility

They are open to businesses or organisations with at least two full-time employees (or part-time equivalents) based in the UK and compliant with HM Revenue and Customs regulations.

The event will be hosted by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Bristol Mrs Peaches Golding OBE.

Previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, the programme is now in its 58th year, with more than UK 7,000 companies recognised through the scheme since its inception in 1965.

Last year148 businesses were recognised across the five categories, including Bristol-based digital learning specialist LearnSci.

Launched in 2007, it is on a mission to transform science education and empower teaching professionals to inspire the next generation of STEM graduates.

The firm now supports more than 200 university departments across the world with its pioneering digital learning solutions.

It was one of 47 firms recognised in the Innovation category. Triodos Bank UK previously received an award in the sustainable development category in 2020.

Other Bristol winners in recent years have included hand-tracking software innovator Ultrahaptics, corporate giving platform Neighbourly, youth empowerment organisation Babbasa, and Rockit, which designs, manufactures and markets sleep aid devices for babies and toddlers, which was presented with awards in two different categories in 2022.
