National construction firm Willmott Dixon has won the title of Major Contractor of the Year at the Building magazine awards. The firm, which has a regional office in Bristol, has achieved annual turnover of £1 billion in 2009 – an increase of 68% since 2008.

The Bristol office’s major projects over the past couple of years have included the £20 million Colston Hall foyer, the Centre for Nanoscience and Quantum Information at the University of Bristol and the Spark science park at Emersons Green.

Willmott Dixon’s South West & Wales managing director Neal Stephens said: “Willmott Dixon has a strong local presence in the region but we are also proud to be backed by a robust and successful operation. This gives us the support and confidence we need to continue to grow throughout 2011 and beyond. It is fantastic news that, as a national firm, we have won this accolade which is testament to the sizeable achievements we have made throughout the business.”

The Building awards recognise the industry’s top and most innovative performers while encouraging sustained performance and further development throughout the sector.

Willmott Dixon is the UK’s third largest privately owned capital works, regeneration and support services firm.
