Consumer PR and communications specialist Wild West, which has an office in Bristol, has been certified as a B Corporation – the latest in the city to gain the status regarded as being to business what Fairtrade is to bananas or coffee.

B Corp businesses must meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability and aspire to use the power of markets to solve social and environmental problems.

Bristol has become a leading centre for B Corps and Wild West has joined an ever-growing band of businesses in the city gaining the status.

National firms in the B Corp community include household names such as Patagonia, Abel & Cole, Ella’s Kitchen and Innocent.

Wild West managing director Georgie Upton made a pledge to join the likes of ethical Bristol firms Triodos, Neighbourly and Pukka Herbs in gaining B Corp status earlier this year when she took up her role at the agency.

To achieve accreditation, businesses must pass a rigorous certification process covering the entirety of their operations, ensuring the highest social and environmental standards are met.

Wild West has an office in Truro as well as Bristol, along with a sister consultancy Wild Card, based in London. The two are in the process of merging, with Wild Card starting the B Corp accreditation process shortly.

Wild Card was founded by Kate Wild in 2000 with Wild West launching in Truro eight years later. The Bristol office followed in 2016.

The agencies specialise in PR, social and digital communications for leading food, drink, lifestyle and leisure brands. Long-standing clients include Highland Spring, Tilda, Ginsters, New York Bakery, Tetley Tea, Watergate Bay Hotel and Eden Project.

Georgie Upton, pictured, said: “B Corp is a business game changer for us. Our mission is to do better business brilliantly and this accreditation marks a watershed in the company’s development.

“The B Corp journey has been a formative and challenging process covering all areas of our business from governance, to team working, community, environment and of course our clients.

“Certification is a reflection of our exceptional team and we are extremely proud to now be part of the B Corp community.”
