Family-owned construction group Jehu, one of the largest based in Wales, has established a South West division based in Bristol.

The move follows the firm securing projects in the region worth £35m, including the contract to build the £16m Moxy boutique hotel on the edge of Bristol city centre.

Jehu Group, which was formed in 1935 and is now owned by the third generation of the same family, has also appointed Nigel Crawford as operations director to head the new division.

Nigel, pictured, who has more than 25 years operational construction management experience, joins Jehu Group from the Bristol office of Galliford Try, where he was operations manager, and has previously worked in the city for a number of construction firms.

At Jehu Group he will be responsible for business development, operational management and delivery of the construction projects in the region.

He said: “This is a really exciting opportunity to develop a substantial presence in a new area of operations for the Jehu Group. I am delighted to be taking up the mantle as director and with the group’s strong brand and values will quickly establish us as a construction firm of choice with clients, replicating the success the group has seen in South Wales.”

The firm is one of Wales’ largest independently owned property and construction companies with a turnover of more than £50m. It is made up of Jehu Project Services, Jehu Civils, Waterstone Homes and Waterstone Estates.

The Moxy hotel development on Newfoundland Street will play a key part in the continued regeneration of a high-profile gateway site close to the Cabot Circus retail scheme.

The six-storey modular build will include 214 rooms, a spacious lobby and reception area, bar/restaurant and gym. The scheme, commissioned by Netherlands-based international real estate group Vastint, is due to start this September, with the hotel opening in autumn next year.

Jehu Group managing director of development Simon Jehu said: “We are proud to welcome Nigel to the Jehu family and to work with him on developing the South West region over the coming months and years.

“We’re delighted to have been awarded such a prestigious contract in the form of the Moxy Hotel site in Bristol. As a chain, they are exciting, modern and forward thinking – values that align perfectly with the Jehu Group. We look forward to taking the development forward and playing a key role in the impressive regeneration of Bristol city centre.”

Jehu Group is also working at Bristol’s Paintworks creative hub on Bath Road and at the Bicester Village discount shopping centre.
