Leading global airline Emirates has become the latest operator to contract Bristol-based Vistair to provide cloud-based technical manuals for its entire fleet in a move the company says will lead to the creation of unspecified number of jobs.

Under the five-year contract, signed following a selection process spanning two years, Vistair will provide, manage, and update cloud-based e-manuals for Emirates 275 aircraft which include  the world’s biggest number of Airbus A380 superjumbos as well as Airbus A330s and A340s and Boeing 777s.

Vistair’s founding managing director Ian Herbert said: “It is especially pleasing that we have been chosen by such a premier league airline after so rigorous a selection process.

“It also enables us to expand our UK workforce at a time when advanced technology jobs are under intense pressure.”

Mr Herbert formed Vistair in the early 1990s from an interactive media software company, recruiting IT and airline professionals to build a range of technology-based cost-saving services for airlines including providing online technical manuals and document handling.

Emirate’s vice president of flight operations Captain Alan Stealey added: “We spent more than two years with the sole aim of selecting the best solution for the management of our flight operations manuals. That selection process was very thorough as Emirates operates to the highest standards as a worldwide airline and we needed a supplier with the same high standards.

“In a nutshell, we set out to select the world’s best provider of e-manuals for the world’s best airline.

“Vistair was the clear choice, as they have a real understanding of airlines and are constantly maximizing the technology. They even deliver added value for our aircraft, supplementing Boeing and Airbus’s software tools.”

The contract was signed at the recent Dubai Airshow where Emirates announced a multi-billion pound order for a further 50 Boeing 777 aircraft that will be included in the Vistair service.

This new contract adds Emirates to Vistair’s fast-growing list of leading airlines that already includes British Airways, BMI, Aer Lingus, easyJet, Flybe, Flydubai, Thomas Cook, and DHL Air.
