Virtual offering launched by event industry firms to maintain ‘sense of togetherness’ for clients

A pair of Bristol-based event industry businesses have joined forces to stage virtual corporate events as Covid-19 continues to put paid to physical gatherings.

Technical event supplier SLX Hire & Events and event management company Alastair Currie Events have already received bookings for the service, which they say keeps all the excitement of a traditional event but in a secure way.

Avonmouth-based SLX recently provided full technical production – in a Covid-secure bubble – to the Great British Bake Off, as well as working with some of the UK’s most famous theatres, including the Palladium and the Old Vic in London.

Alastair Currie Events, based in Backwell, also has a roster of impressive events under its belt, including numerous corporate occasions at Aerospace Bristol and Ashton Gate as well as a Wassail at the Thatcher’s Cider farm.

SLX sales director Russell Payne said: “When Covid-19 hit, our industry was, and in many ways remains, in turmoil.

“However, we recognised that not every event can be postponed or cancelled and that a sense of togetherness can still be created utilising online platforms.

“By creating a Covid-secure studio at our Avonmouth warehouse, we have been able to support a range of events to continue – including conferences, large-scale corporate meetings and even award ceremonies.

“There is a real appetite to still have events and not to put our opportunities to get together on pause. With the new restrictions announced, it’s clear that those needing absolute certainty that their event will go ahead are choosing to go virtual. We hope to see more of Bristol’s businesses in our studio, with their audiences tuning in from home.”

Alastair Currie Events director Alastair Currie, pictured, added: “Being able to turn people’s ideas for an event into reality again is great, even if that might be virtual.

“Using the studio space at the SLX warehouse means we can create fun, engaging virtual spaces and the partnership means we can manage the whole process for the client making it a straightforward solution.

“I think many will be surprised with what can be achieved virtually, and we’ve certainly been delighted to see hundreds tuning into events that have already taken place.”
