Hydro International, the innovative developer of technology that manages stormwater and wastewater, has sealed a $1m (£670,000) acquisition in the US to strengthen its range of services it offers clients.

California-based M2 Renewables has developed rotating belt screen filtration technology used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, securing important initial projects with major US customers.

Hydro chief executive Michael Jennings said: “The acquisition of M2R’s MicroScreen broadens our business and fits perfectly with our growth strategy. The product sits neatly within our core range, strengthening further the treatment options available to customers across our screening to separation to filtration platforms.”

Clevedon-based Hydro is acquiring M2R, which was established in 2003, from Sail Capital Partners for an initial amount of $1m in cash, plus an additional deferred consideration of 10% of sales incorporating the acquired intellectual property across the first five years, capped at $10m. The acquisition will be funded from existing cash and debt facilities.

Hydro has developed a range of technologies to control urban runoff, treat stormwater, combined sewage overflows and municipal wastewater for clients in the UK, US and Ireland.
