The Bristol office of Rothmans Recovery has been appointed to handle the administration of one of the top hotels on the Isle of Wight.

The upmarket Priory Bay Hotel at Seaview, pictured, which boasts a private beach and helipad, remains open and trading while a buyer is sought.

Rupert Mullins and James Stares of Rothmans were appointed joint administrators of Peartime Limited, trading as The Priory Bay Hotel, in the summer after it got into financial difficulties.

The hotel, which is on the market with Savills with a £3m guide price, has a total of 44 bedrooms, with the Grade II-listed country house at its centre having 18 suites.

Additional letting accommodation is available in a converted barn and cottage development. There are two restaurants, tennis courts and a six-hole golf course.

It was previously owned by Andrew Palmer, founder of the New Covent Garden Soup Company, for 18 years.

Mr Mullins, pictured, said he expected considerable interest in the hotel, which he intends to keep open for as long as practical or until the right buyer is found.

“On my visit to the hotel I have been impressed by the dedicated staff and the ‘business-as- usual’ attitude, while guests continue to receive the service they should expect,” he said.

“It is hoped that the interest already shown in acquiring the hotel will be converted into a credible offer from a buyer.”

Martin Rogers, Savills head of UK hotel transactions, added: “The Priory Bay estate offers a unique opportunity to the buyer, its location and heritage sets it apart from other hotels on the island.

“It offers a range of income streams from the two restaurants, and weddings and conference facilities, providing year-round business.”

Rothmans Recovery is one of the South of England’s longest-established and largest chartered accountancy practices, with 13 offices including corporate recovery offices in Bristol and Salisbury.
