Regional accountancy firm PKF Francis Clark has bolstered its corporate tax team in Bristol with three recent appointments.

Senior manager Rhiannon Baynham has joined from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), manager Robert Waterhouse previously worked at research and development (R&D) tax credit firm ForrestBrown, and assistant manager Joe Martin has arrived from KPMG.

Rhiannon spent eight years working as an international and corporate tax specialist at HMRC focusing on large corporates and mid-sized businesses.

She brings extensive experience of HMRC inquiries and the behavioural penalty regime, complex corporation tax issues, tax compliance, UK tax assurance rules and international tax, as well as transfer pricing and double taxation relief.

Robert Waterhouse worked at Bristol-headquartered ForrestBrown for five years, specialising in research and development (R&D) tax credits and corporate tax.

He supports clients in a wide variety of sectors, including engineering, manufacturing and software, to prepare suitable tax credit claims by reviewing, defining and quantifying their R&D projects.

Joe Martin worked at KPMG on client tax governance, compliance and advisory. He previously spent eight years at HMRC specialising in a range of taxes, from corporation tax and customs to employment taxes and income tax, investigating businesses from sole traders all the way up to the largest companies in the UK.

PKF Francis Clark head of tax John Endacott said: “We are seeing increasing demand from larger corporate clients for complex tax advisory work.

“The arrival of Rhiannon, Robert and Joe bolsters the existing skills and experience of our growing corporate tax team in Bristol.

“They will also play an important role in providing corporate tax advice to our busy audit teams, as well as helping to develop our tax trainees.”

Since opening nearly four years ago, PKF Francis Clark’s Bristol office on Victoria Street has grown rapidly and now has a team of more than 50 people advising a wide range of clients.

It is one of the firm’s eight offices across the South West, which between them employ more than 800 members of staff – making PKF Francis Clark the largest independent chartered accountants in the region.

The firm was shortlisted for the Best Employer in Tax award at the 2023 Tolley’s Taxation Awards.
