Bristol has today been named as one of the top 10 UK destinations by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site.

The city appears in its 2013 Travellers’ Choice Destinations Awards, which celebrate the top destinations in the world as decided by millions of travellers.

TripAdvisor spokesperson Angus Struthers said: “These awards honour the world’s best destinations as decided by those judges that really matter – travellers themselves. With the choice of so many beautiful destinations in the UK, it’s fantastic that travellers have named Bristol among the UK’s very best.”

Destination Bristol chief executive John Hirst, said: “It’s a well-deserved place in the top 10 for Bristol, made all the more meaningful because it reflects the experiences of real people coming to our city and having a great time.

“We have a lively programme of festivals and events year-round that really makes Bristol stand out from other cities and hopefully will see us making an appearance in the European and world top 10 destinations in the future

“Bristol is such a diverse and vibrant place, from our urban street art and music scene, to an extensive range of high-quality family attractions and wide selection of award-winning places to eat and drink.

“Everyone who visits Bristol can be certain of finding something that they love and want to come back to again and again. The warmth and friendliness of Bristol people also plays a huge part in making visitors feel so at home here.”

Bristol appears at number 10 in the table. London comes third in the world in this year’s Traveller’s Choice Destinations Awards – just pipped to the post by Paris and New York which take first and second place respectively.
