National law firm Clarke Willmott has jumped into a top 20 position in a prestigious table of the UK’s highest-rated planning law firms.

The firm, which has seven offices across the country including Bristol, climbed eight places from 21 to 13 in the Planning Law Survey 2022.

The annual survey is an in-depth report based on testimonials by the consultants, developers and officers that use law firms’ services.

Clarke Willmott’s planning and environment team provides expert advice on the full range of contentious and non-contentious planning and environmental law issues across England and Wales, in all industry sectors.

Partner and team head Neil Baker, pictured, said the firm was delighted to have made such a strong showing in the poll.

“It is testament to the hard work and experience of the team and speaks to our strength in the planning market,” he added.

“Acknowledgement from key figures in the industry reflects the extent of our expertise and reputation and is as proud achievement for Clarke Willmott as a whole.”

The team has recently been strengthened with the arrival of Marianne Baker as a partner and a number of promotions.

“Marianne brings 20 years’ experience in contentious and non-contentious planning law, working with clients on building their businesses and unlocking potential roadblocks,” added Neil Baker.

“She has brought a reputation as a solution-focused practitioner, with a sound understanding of the political framework in London, which plays a key role in decision making, and joins an experienced, established team that works together seamlessly.”

Meanwhile Laura Urch, who specialises in planning appeals and rights of way issues, has been promoted to senior associate in the team while Alice Sydney has qualified into it as a solicitor.

The team is ranked in Tier 2 in the sector in the respected law sector directory Legal 500 with Neil Baker in its ‘Hall of Fame’ and Caroline Waller and Chris Charlton listed as ‘key lawyers.’

The team is also currently ranked in Band 2 in rival publication Chambers with Neil and Caroline individually ranked as Band 1 and Chris Charlton as Band 2.

Clarke Willmott employs more than 600 lawyers and support staff, including 100-plus partners, across its offices in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton, and Taunton.
