The real estate group at Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT has been strengthened with the appointment of Ranjeev Kumar as partner.

Ranjeev, pictured, joins from international firm Watson Farley Williams, where worked for six years, establishing and leading the firm’s real estate finance offering in London.

Last summer he won the Editor’s Choice category in trade publication Bridging & Commercial’s 2020 awards in recognition of his service to the real estate finance market – in particular the bridging and commercial finance markets – and for his contribution to education, training, thought leadership and relationship building.

He has also worked at Katten Muchin Rosenman, Fried Frank Harris, Shriver & Jacobson,Paul Hastings and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

TLT said he brought a wealth of experience to the firm, having advised on all types of domestic and cross-border real estate transactions, including sales, purchases, lettings, developments, financings, joint ventures, business mergers and acquisitions, and real estate funds formation.

His experience includes acting for a London bank on its development financing of a mixed-use scheme in Kings Cross, advising a private investor on its acquisition of four student accommodation sites, and advising a property developer and its subsidiaries on a multi-million pound acquisition of a portfolio of four UK business parks.

At TLT, he will focus on domestic and cross-border real estate finance transactions, working with developers, investors, banks and other financial institutions, overseas investors, and alternative lenders.

He will also boost the firm’s international offering, having acted on behalf of many international banks, lenders and family offices, as well as establishing the South East Asia initiative at Katten Muchin Rosenman’s London office.

TLT partner and head of financial services sector Andrew Lyon said: “Ranjeev’s mix of real estate and financial services experience is clearly a great strategic fit for TLT and will enhance the firm’s offering across both these key sectors. His knowledge and experience will be a great asset to the team and we are excited to welcome him to the firm.”

TLT partner and head of real estate and clean energy Maria Connolly added that Ranjeev’s experience added further quality to the firm’s real estate team, strengthening its depth and expertise in this dynamic sector.

“Ranjeev brings a range of exciting clients to the firm, and his familiarity with a number of our existing clients will aid a seamless transition into our team,” she said.

Ranjeev Kumar said: “TLT offers brand and resource and in a progressive, dynamic and ambitious environment, which are the qualities which appeal to me. With the firm’s renowned strength in depth and quality in breadth across all areas including real estate, financial services and renewables, I am delighted to be joining a very talented team.”

TLT has also grown its 200-plus network of litigators across the UK with the appointment of Peter McGladrigan as a legal director based in its Edinburgh office.

Peter, pictured, specialises in banking litigation insolvency, commercial litigation and debt recovery and has significant experience acting for insolvency practitioners and financial services clients, including banks.

He is also a Solicitor Advocate, having obtained extended rights of audience in the supreme courts (Court of Session and Supreme Court) in 2019, and has extensive advocacy experience and litigates regularly in both the Sheriff Court and the Court of Session.

His arrival follows several high-profile appointments to the team last year, including a 12-strong team from the world’s largest legal group Dentons.

TLT employs more than 120 partners and around 1,200 people across its offices in Bristol, London, Manchester, Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow and a specialist ship finance team in Greece.
