Thrings acts for owners of UK specialist interiors firm on its sale to major international group

The Bristol corporate team at law firm Thrings has advised UK interior fit-out and refurbishment specialist Bulb on its sale to a major global workplace design group.

Founded in 2005 in Reading, Bulb has become a leader in research, innovation and manufacturing facility planning and construction across the UK.

As a result, it has developed a niche expertise through the use of its own scientists to enhance the design and fit out of hi-tech laboratories for its clients, particularly in the life sciences clusters of London, Cambridge and Oxford, where it also has an office.

Its acquisition by Unispace Group, a global leader in workplace strategy, design, project management and construction, means it will now be able to offer clients a much wider range of capabilities and services.

Unispace, which operates in more than 25 countries worldwide, has a particularly strong reputation in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. It said its takeover of Bulb would strengthen its service offering and specialisation in the British and Irish.

Thrings acted on behalf of Bulb’s shareholders and managing directors Derek Jones and Paul Horsburgh.

Its team of corporate lawyers was led by Bath-based partner Simon Hore, pictured, supported by Bristol associate solicitor Joe Watkins and trainee solicitor Noah Ofulue.

They advised on all matters of the sale of shares, including carrying out due diligence on the deal and share purchase agreement.

Bulb co-managing director Derek Jones said: “We are delighted with how positive this sale process has been and want to thank Thrings, in particular Simon and his team, for their tireless work to get this over the line.

“Having not experienced such a sale process, it was difficult to know what to expect, however, we felt well supported and advised throughout.

Bulb co-managing director Paul Horsburgh added: “We are excited to join a fast-growing, global business such as Unispace Life Sciences; our joined-up team of experts will be able to offer clients a much wider range of capabilities and services.

“We look forward to beginning our new journey and continuing to deliver inspiring, sustainable, work environments that address the challenges today’s life sciences businesses are facing.”

Simon Hore said: “Bulb becoming part of the Unispace family is a deal that is going to be of major benefit to both organisations and it has been very rewarding to have supported Derek and Paul in this successful sale following their years of hard work.”

Thrings also has offices in London, Lydney, Romsey, Ross-on-Wye and Swindon.
