Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Valentine Akande, medical director and lead consultant, Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine – BCRM, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Don’t Look Up. A dystopian spoof. Not the best, but it does pose some interesting questions about what people do when faced with an impending crisis.

Book you read? War and Peace. Genuinely epic in its grandeur and simplicity – all of life is there. I honestly think it’s one of the greatest books I’ve ever read, and I keep going back to it.

Music you bought/downloaded? The visceral emotional journey that is Gustav Mahler’s 6th Symphony.

Concert or play you went to? It was a really interesting session on ‘dissecting an orchestra’ in Bristol Beacon’s foyer.

Sporting event you attended? My 17-year-old son playing hockey for Westbury and United Banks Hockey Club at Coombe Dingle in Bristol

Holiday you went on? It was a very welcome return to a regular favourite, the small fishing village of Carteret in Normandy, France, where my parents-in-law have a holiday home.

Restaurant you ate in? Little Hollows on Chandos Road for lunch with my wife. I had a very good fresh pasta and crab dish.

Thing that annoys you? People who make no effort to see the other side of a story. I’m a strong believer in trying to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? My daughter shared a great Tik Tok dog video with me. Silly but very funny.

Piece of good advice you were given? Listen to what people have to say but make your own decisions.
