Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin.

This week Nadia Abdulla, managing director of Park Street Events (Bristol) and Experience Factory Ltd, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Interstellar – what a gripping and compelling film – definitely recommend it.

Book you read? I am not very good at finishing books so I have a few on the go at the moment and genuinely can’t remember the last one I finished!: The Alchemist, Winner’s Edge, The life and guidance of Prophet Muhammad

Music you bought/downloaded? The Piano Guys album – relaxing but also really motivating and moving

Concert or play you went to? Who’s Line is it Anyway? at The Aldwych, London. So incredibly funny, I cried for about two hours straight! It was a brilliant reunion with my two best friends from school.

Sporting event you attended? The launch of Bristol’s Sports Day. On Saturday August 1 Park Street Events (Bristol) is hosting Bristol’s first community sports day on College Green. A few weeks ago we created a mini pop-up version of the day with schools kids, businessmen in suits and woman all having a go at the different activities – football, golf, basketball, lacrosse, cycling, dancing, fitness challenges, stand-up paddle boarding… the list goes on.

Holiday you went on? Zanzibar – where my Grandma, or Daddima as I called her in Swahili, is from. The island is a taste of paradise on Earth and the people are so warm, humble and welcoming. It’s a magical island and is my favourite place.

Restaurant you ate in? The Lido – one of the hidden gems of Bristol.

Thing that annoyed you? A gentleman on the Tube last week who decided to take his anger and assuming judgment out on a young man, for no particular reason. Seriously in London on the Tube – people don’t talk to each other and if they do they seem only to be rude. They need some Bristol love.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Yesterday evening I listened to the official Green Capital poet Martin Kiszko, who performed a thoroughly entertaining and clever poem that had everyone laughing.

Piece of good advice you were given? I actually got to sit down with the CEO of HSBC UK for an hour last week and he told me… have courage and stand up for what you believe in and do what will make you proud. I think we all need to remember that, especially in this fast-paced world. We get consumed into this running race and don’t always take the time to sit back and really think about what we are doing and why, and if it is the right thing for us.

Nadia Abdulla is the founder of Park Street Events (Bristol), which produced A Park on Park Street last year and now Bristol’s first community Sports Day. Last year Park Street came in the top three for the Great British High Street Award. She has recently launched her own experiential marketing company Experience Factory Ltd and is a Young Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust. Nadia started producing events when she was 15, raising money for Cancer Research UK due to her mum having cancer and although has a degree in Maths and Physics, has continued her passion. She now specialises in using events as a marketing tool.
