Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Lara Burch, head of law firm Osborne Clarke’s Bristol office, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Don’t Look Up. Discussing the artistic merits of this one would rather be missing the point.

Book you read? I’ve just re-read David Sedaris’ Me Talk Pretty One Day. As someone who has tried, and failed, to become fluent in French, his descriptions of learning French in Paris really tickled me. Like me, he resorted to referring to everything in the plural to avoid guessing if the noun was masculine or feminine.  I always have to ask for at least three of everything, because I can’t pronounce the words ‘un’ or ‘deux’ correctly. It’s an expensive solution.

Music you bought/downloaded? My Ever Changing Moods by The Style Council. A tune for menopausal women everywhere.

Concert or play you went to? So many things have been postponed, so it’s been a while. I’ve got tickets for The Killers at Ashton Gate, Joe Jackson in Cardiff and the mellifluous, Bristol-born Lady Nade at St Stephens.

Sporting event you attended? One of my son’s school hockey games. I get more exercise jumping about on the side-line to keep warm than the lads get on the pitch.

Holiday you went on? Crete. It was wonderful.

Restaurant you ate in? The Ivy Brasserie, Clifton. A real treat. Next up will be the New MoOn on the Quay.

Thing that annoyed you? As anyone who doesn’t know me could tell you, I live in a state of Zen-like tranquillity. But I do get annoyed by pointless plastic things, built-in obsolescence, food waste, impenetrable packaging, people who waste time telling me how busy they are, long lists…

Thing that made you laugh out loud? My wonderful colleague Will Robertson’s ‘dad jokes’ always make me laugh. His latest was “I saw a microbiologist today. She was bigger than I’d thought”. I retaliated with “I bought my husband a trebuchet for Christmas. That threw him”.

Piece of good advice you were given? Notice the things that go right.

Lara Burch was born in London and grew up in Canterbury, Kent. She joined Osborne Clarke in 1997 and has been a partner specialising in commercial law since 2001. Alongside family and work, she tries to make time for gardening (or, at least, urban wilding, which is a handy justification for all the nettles and brambles), cooking, movies, and country walks with friends.
