Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Chris Dyson, head of the Bristol office for law firm Ashfords, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Hunt for the Wilderpeople – a hilarious, underrated NZ film. I’m a keen film viewer so enjoy coming across lesser known gems like this.

Book you read? Neither Wolf Nor Dog by Kent Nerburn – slightly off the beaten track for me, this book shares really thought-provoking perspectives on life from Native American elders.

Music you bought/downloaded? I’m trying to get my children into anything they can’t ‘floss’ to. An eclectic mix of the likes of AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine, Future Islands and Nick Mulvey seems to be doing the trick.

Concert or play you went to? Tim Minchin’s Matilda at The Cambridge – with Minchin’s dark humour, it is great fun for adults and kids alike.

Sporting event you attended? I’m not sure my efforts technically qualify as ‘sporting’ but I’m just recovering from yesterday’s charity football tournament organised by Grant Thornton. Does that count?

Holiday you went on? Oman. A fascinating place – I really enjoyed the wadis, beaches, wildlife, forts and history.

Restaurant you ate in? The Lido. A lovely spot on a sunny evening.

Thing that annoyed you? Richard Hammond. Just because.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Comedian Jayde Adams, who hails from Bristol, did a brilliant job hosting the recent SPARKies tech awards.

Piece of good advice you were given? “Exercise more, eat less”. I will ignore it of course, but it was good advice.

Chris is head of the Bristol office for national law firm Ashfords. He started training as a corporate lawyer in Bristol in 2004, initially planning to move on to London or back to Australia, where he previously worked. Some 14 years since realising just how much the city has to offer, he has stayed in Bristol and is a keen advocate for the region, having also lived in Devon and Somerset. Chris specialises in technology investment and M&A and leads Ashfords’ support for a number of events and initiatives in the city such as The Lord Mayor’s Charity Gift Gala, Gromit Unleased, the Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival, TechSpark and support for the local tech community.
