Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the area’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Bruce Simmonds, chair of the Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children’s Appeal, answers our 10 questions.

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Tom Hanks in Inferno. Exciting but predictable. It keeps you awake if nothing else!

Book you read? The Churchill Factor: How One Man Made History by Boris Johnson.
Very interesting and thought provoking.

Music you bought or downloaded? Elvis with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. So easy for relaxing and brings back so many memories of that period in my life.

Concert or play you went to? Vienna, Encore Vienna after a luxury afternoon tea. Just delightful.

Sporting event you attended? One of Bristol Rugby’s recent matches. Oh dear….!

Holiday you went on? Tuscany over the New Year. Elegant and gorgeous.

Restaurant you ate in? Hotel du Vin. Always reliable for good food.

Thing that annoyed you? Spending a lot of time helping someone and then not being thanked. Awful. Just move on…

Thing that made you laugh aloud? Playing ‘rough and tumble’ with all four grandchildren and then being jumped on by all of them at the same time. Children are what motivate me to stay involved in the Appeal. It saddens me to think some in this city don’t even have a present to unwrap on Christmas Day.

Piece of good advice you were given? Piece of good advice received- Do not dress much younger than your age. People notice and are usually not impressed. Embarrassing….

Bruce Simmonds is chair of the Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Children’s Appeal, which annually raises money to provide some of the city’s most disadvantaged children with food and gift vouchers at Christmas.  A chartered accountant, Bruce has been involved in the appeal for more than 40 years. One of the charity’s main fundraising events of the year, backed by many of the city’s businesses, is the Gift Gala, which takes place on March 2 at Ashton Gate Stadium. Email lmcaevents@gmail.com for tickets.
