Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Andrew Thresh, general manager of the Avon Gorge by Hotel Du Vin, answers our 10 questions

What was the LAST:

Film you watched? Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Dragged along by my daughter and enjoyed it despite myself!

Book you read? Personal (a Jack Reacher novel) by Lee Child. He would make a great hotel GM.

Music you bought/downloaded? Promises by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith.

Concert or play you went to? Wicked at the Hippodrome.

Sporting event you attended? Alnwick Town Pythons v Whitley Bay Boys Club. My 14-year-old sons’ team! Come on the Pythons!

Holiday you went on? We had a week off with the kids and spent it in Bristol. It was brilliant! So much to do and see.

Restaurant you ate in? In the interests of honesty, it was Goram and Vincent here at Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin during our opening week. Best steak I have had this year.

Thing that annoyed you? A very rude shop assistant who showed zero patience or tolerance to the customer ahead of me, who had learning difficulties. I could not stop myself stepping to resolve it and then return later to report the assistant to the manager. If we don’t know about it, we cannot learn/deal with it.

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Piece of good advice you were given? Always treat people the way you would want to be treated

Andrew Thresh came to Bristol two years ago as general manager of Hotel Du Vin Bristol on a three-month fixed-term contract as a favour. That was when he fell in love with the Hotel Du Vin brand, the guests, the city and his colleagues and he decided to stay. Last month he took over the GM role at Avon Gorge by Hotel Du Vin as it launches its new restaurant Goram and Vincent and the newly renovated hotel.
