Each week Bristol Business News gives a prominent member of the city’s business community the last word on its weekly e-bulletin. This week Alison Bevan, director of the RWA, answers our 10 questions:

What was the last:

Film you watched? Harold and Maude (70s classic on DVD: I missed it first time around)

Book you read? Out of Our Minds by Sir Ken Robinson – an inspirational book about how essential creativity is to successful business in our fast-changing world.

Music you bought/downloaded? Alabama Shakes: Sound & Color.

Concert or play you went to? Welsh National Opera Orchestra performing Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky in St David’s Cathedral as part of the 2015 Fishguard Festival.

Sporting event you attended? The last thing I participated in was a sponsored 100ft free-hanging abseil raising funds for the RWA – absolutely terrifying!

Holiday you went on? Camping in Pembrokeshire, which – despite Bristolian roots – I consider to be my home county, having lived there from the age of 10. It’s my idea of heaven.

Restaurant you ate in? Bill’s on The Triangle – a regular lunchtime haunt.

Thing that annoyed you? Bad customer service in a shop (a pet hate).

Thing that made you laugh out loud? Satellite City, a Welsh sitcom we turn to on DVD whenever we need cheering up.

Piece of good advice you were given? Remember what an air hostess says in the security briefing and make sure you put on your own oxygen mask first, as you can’t care for anyone else if you collapse (i.e. if you want to help others, look after your own health and wellbeing).

Alison Bevan (née Lloyd) is director of the Royal West of England Academy (RWA) in Bristol – England’s only regional Royal Academy of Art, housed in a spectacular purpose-built Grade II* listed Gallery. She joined the RWA in September 2013 and is passionate about putting this “jewel in the crown of England’s exhibiting venues” at the heart of the region’s cultural life, as well as expanding the Academy’s offer to Bristol’s businesses through hire of its stunning galleries, sponsorship of the distinctive exhibition programme and corporate membership, including the popular Art in Your Workplace scheme.
