The challenges facing retailers take centre stage at a specialist conference to be held in Bristol later this month.

Will internet retailers replace the high street? How can it respond to the challenge? Are pop-up shops the future or are more flexible tenant friendly leases the way forward?

Organised by the Bristol office of Michelmores Solicitors, the conference is part of a series of regional Talking Shop events which have attracted hundreds of retailers to listen to retail sector experts and to exchange ideas and experience.

Speakers at the Bristol event will include John Lewis development manager Paul Grierson, Bristol City Council director of planning Zoe Willcox, Andrew Jones, a partner at Big Four accountants Deloitte and Jonathan Lambert, director of property agents DTZ.

The E Street v High Street conference will be chaired by Michelmores’ partner Caroline Taylor, who said: “The retail sector is in a state of change and has been for some time. The current economic climate and changing consumer behaviours are causing retailers to look hard at their operations and models to see where the future lies. The internet and e-commerce have played a major part in the shift away from bricks and mortar retail towards e-tail.

“This conference will look at how significant this shift is, whether this is a passing phase or something more permanent and how the high street might respond to the added competition provided by e-tailers and the internet.”

The conference takes place between 2-5pm on Friday May 24 at Watershed, 1 Canon’s Road, Bristol. To book or for further information visit:
