Spiraling material costs force family-run window firm ‘with excellent reputation’ out of business

A long-established Bristol window and door manufacturer has gone into liquidation after being hit by the rising cost of materials and the effects of the pandemic on the construction industry.

Family-owned West-End Windows, based in Novers Hill, Bedminster, had been trading for 48 years and employed 17 people. It operated across Bristol, Bath, Newport and North Somerset.

Lucinda Coleman and Stephen Hobson of regional accountancy firm PKF Francis Clark have been appointed joint liquidators.

Mark Roach, associate director in the business recovery team at PKF Francis Clark, said: “West-End Windows had an excellent reputation for quality and service but had suffered in recent times due to significant increases in material costs, the pandemic and loss of customers suffering from similar issues.

“Sadly it was not possible to rescue the company as a going concern and there was no alternative to liquidation.

“Our focus now is on realising the assets of the company in order to deliver a return to creditors.”

The business was launched in 1975 by Bill Carr to work with aluminium windows systems before moving into the PVCu market in 1979.

Garry Carr took over the business in 1989 with his wife Pauline. Their two daughters Karen and Laura and her husband Chris also joined the business.

Anyone interested in potentially acquiring the assets of West-End Windows, including a large quantity of plant, machinery, stock and vehicles, should contact Simon Cornelius-Light at Lambert Smith Hampton for details.

Any creditors should contact Mark Roach or Charles Bell in PKF Francis Clark’s Bristol office on 0117 403 9800.
