Artificial Intelligence, the cloud and cyber security will be put under the microscope at a breakfast briefing hosted by the Bristol office of accountancy, investment management and tax group Smith & Williamson next week.

Targeted at owner-managers and senior executives, the Harnessing Technology for Growth event will feature three expert presentations.

Smith & Williamson Artificial Intelligence (AI) specialist and investment management partner Chris Ford will discuss the impact, trends, opportunities and challenges of AI on people, organisations and the wider economy. Chris will also look at how businesses are exploiting the potential of AI and where it is generating most value.

His colleague, associate director Helen Bassett, pictured, will focus on how AI and automation in cloud accounting systems are improving efficiency in businesses ranging from SMEs to large corporates. She will provide an overview of the latest accounting systems, their impact on resource, process efficiencies and how to mitigate the risks of putting sensitive financial data in the cloud.

Ian Mann, CEO of ECSC, the UK’s longest running full-service cyber security service provider, will conclude the briefing with an overview of the most important and common cyber threats which businesses face, and outline practical steps they can take to protect themselves. He will also explore the cyber security risks that come with AI and doing business in the cloud.

Helen Bassett said: “Technology is fundamentally changing how we live and work. It can feel overwhelming for businesses to keep up to date with the latest technological developments without letting opportunities pass them by.

“Understanding how technology can be leveraged effectively to support business growth and learning how to manage the challenges it brings can unlock key competitive advantages.”

The briefing takes place at Smith & Williamson’s office in Portwall Place, Portwall Lane, Bristol, from 8am-10am on Wednesday, May 2.
