UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the Government’s export advice organisation, and Bristol accountants Smith & Williamson have teamed up to stage a seminar focusing on how West firms can get the most out doing business on the international stage.

The half-day event comes as new research shows that companies trading overseas tend to achieve stronger financial performance, experience a longer life span for their products and have higher innovation and productivity levels than non-exporters.

Grow your Business through Exporting, which takes place on Wednesday July 4 at Smith & Williamson’s office in Portwall Lane, Bristol city centre, will give advice on structuring a business for trading overseas and how to win export deals.

Businesses will also find out how to finance international trade and learn about the sources of funding and the Government-assisted schemes available.

UKTI South West regional director Russell Jones said: “Although the prospect of trading internationally can be daunting, there are several organisations, including UKTI and its partners, which can play an instrumental role in helping businesses flourish and mitigate the risk of exporting by providing access to essential knowledge and expertise.

“Over the years, hundreds of businesses across the South West have benefitted from this expertise and have succeeded in breaking into new international markets. In fact, many have been honoured with the Queen’s Award for International Trade – testament that the benefits of exporting are there to be reaped if proper preparation and planning is carried out.”

Smith & Williamson partner David Roper added: “Exporting has never been a more important way for companies, of all sizes, to succeed and grow in today’s tough economic climate. As one of the UK’s top 10 accountancy firms, and with an international capability in more than 100 countries, Smith & Williamson can help growing businesses anywhere in the world. We provide a wide range of services to make      international trade easier, whether you are an experienced exporter or just getting started.”

The seminar will also illustrate how to boost international business online and provide guidance on how to benefit from social media and digital marketing.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to find out about how international students can help businesses expand overseas, through UWE’s International Talent Scheme.
