Get Mentoring, a national initiative to recruit and train thousands of business mentors from the UK’s small, medium and micro business community, is tomorrow staging a free introduction to enterprise mentoring training workshop near Bristol.

The half-day session run by the IoEE (Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurship) is designed to help potential mentors reflect on their current skills, experience and knowledge and explain how this could be useful to mentees.

The session, at the Double Tree Hotel, Congresbury between 9am and 1pm, will be informative and includes practical activities including a workbook that can be taken away for future reference.

According to Get mentoring, the session is designed to be a journey of self-discovery where participants will be encouraged to:

Recognise their role as an enterprise mentor

Reflect on their current skills and knowledge and how they can be applied to the enterprise mentoring role

Identify areas of strength and areas they may wish to develop further

Reflect on their experience as an entrepreneur, the day-to-day challenges faced and how this experience could be useful to mentees.

Those completing the course will also receive free membership of the IoEE and will be listed on mentorsme.co.uk, a national web portal providing a single point of access to mentoring services.

A spokesman said: “Get Mentoring is about businesses helping each other to succeed. We know how important it is for those who have 'been there and done it' to pass on their valuable experience. Unlocking enterprise talent in people from all sections of society and in our micro, small and medium-sized businesses is where the UK's long-term prosperity lies and mentoring will play a key role in this process.

Also, this isn't just a one way street as a true mentoring relationship works in both directions. New and growing businesses will benefit from real support and mentors will also enhance their skills and enterprise know-how.”
