Bristol-based ethical design and gift website Decorator’s Notebook has doubled its sales after expanding its range of homeware and textiles products.

The ethical design website, which supports 21 social enterprise projects, sells home accessories, jewellery, pottery, textiles and furniture produced in Kenya, India, Morocco, Peru, Kashmir and Tunisia.

Customers can trace the origins of all products on sale via its website.

Decorator’s Notebook was launched in 2013 by siblings Joe and Bethan John, pictured, with the help of a £15,000 government-backed loan from The Start Up Loans Company.

Former interior design journalist Bethan said: “Our whole business operates a fair trade model, which gives every part of the supply chain a fairer deal.

“It’s fantastic that the rise we’ve had in sales helps not just the business but all the co-operatives we work with.”

All the producer groups that Decorator’s Notebook partners with adhere to the World Trade Organisation’s 10 principles of fair trade.

To tie-in with Fairtrade Fortnight, which ends this Sunday, the company has planned social media activity to raise awareness of ethical products and is offering a 10% discount on its online shop with the code FAIRTRADE.

Bethan added: “Working with suppliers that uphold fair trade principles is so important and that’s why we’re promoting Fairtrade Fortnight to raise awareness and support for sustainably-sourced goods,”.

Over the next 12 months, Decorator’s Notebook is looking to secure further investment to fund marketing activity to support its growth.
