Alex Castiglione, who joined Bristol law firm Barcan+Kirby as a temporary receptionist 15 years ago, has been promoted to its head of commercial property.

Alex, pictured, arrived at the firm in 2002 to cover maternity leave. Before she reached the end of her temporary contract she was offered the chance to stay on and train as a Chartered Legal Executive.

Barcan+Kirby funded her training and five years later she qualified. Two years ago she was promoted to an associate, and in February last year became the first legal executive in the firm’s history to be promoted to senior associate.

Alex specialises in commercial sales and purchases; acquisition of development land; plots sales; commercial refinancing; and landlord & tenant work. She is based in the firm’s Clifton office.

Barcan+Kirby managing partner Chris Miller said: “We are particularly delighted to announce this promotion to celebrate the achievements of a real ‘home-grown’ talent.

“Alex has been committed both to her own career development and the building of our commercial property practice throughout her time at the firm. She is a well-respected solicitor and brings a great deal of experience and expertise to this new role as head of commercial property.”

Barcan+Kirby has a dedicated team of commercial lawyers that provide local businesses with legal services including commercial property, contract disputes and debt recovery.

Clients range from individual owner occupiers and small family businesses, though to residential developers and commercial investors.

The firm has seven offices around Bristol and employs 140 staff.
