Haseltine Lake Kempner, the Bristol-headquartered international patent and trademark firm, has appointed Jo Deas as a partner in its chemistry and life sciences team.

Jo joins the firm having spent 12 years at two well respected intellectual property (IP) practices in Nottingham.

As a UK and European patent attorney, she has particular experience in medical devices and formulation chemistry.

She is an expert in European patent oppositions and appeals, having attended many hearings over the years with a very high success rate.

Jo has an MChem in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry from the University of St Andrews. During her degree she spent a year in industrial placement in the formulation team at Reckitt Benckiser, the consumer health, hygiene and home giant.

Last year she was listed as a Rising Star by IPStars, the guide to the world’s leading IP practitioners and firms.

Jo said: “I am excited to join a firm with such an excellent reputation and to be able to assist in strengthening the opposition and appeals offering of the firm.”

Senior partner in Haseltine Lake Kempner’s chemistry and life sciences team, Alex Rogers, added: “We are delighted Jo is joining our team. The demand for our skills in European oppositions and appeals is ever growing and Jo’s expertise will add to our strength in this area.”

Haseltine Lake Kempner was formed last May through the merger of Bristol-based IP firm Haseltine Lake and Leeds-based boutique IP law firm Kempner & Partners.

The firm employs nearly 200 people in offices in London, Munich, Bristol, Leeds, Glasgow, The Netherlands and Guangzhou, China.
