A raft of new client wins has helped Bristol-headquartered national law firm Burges Salmon grow annual revenue by 5.1% to £94.6m

The firm, which employs around 750 people in its Bristol head office and London office, also increased operating profit by 1.8%.

The performance was above the previous year’s 3% growth and also bettered 2016/17 when revenues flatlined.

New clients brought in during the year included the Marine Energy Test Area, the CCS Wider Public Sector legal panel, Bristol City Council’s ‘City Leap’ initiative, the National LGPS Legal Services Framework, with the firm also reappointed to the FSCS (Financial Services Compensation Scheme) panel.

Burges Salmon also opened an office in Edinburgh during the year.

Managing partner Roger Bull, pictured, said the results were in line with the targets set by the firm.

“I am really happy with our performance this year and our continued progress in growing our key practices and sectors,” he said.

“We’ve seen impressive double-digit growth across a significant number of our key practices and sectors including disputes, private wealth, financial services, technology and healthcare.

“We have taken investment decisions to support future client needs, including opening our new office in Edinburgh in May and investing further in our advanced technology offerings.”

He said the firm continued to promote exceptional talent, with the appointment of eight new partners – a single year record for the firm – and 13 new directors.

“I’m also really proud of the progress we’ve made in a number of other strategic areas. Our firm thrives on building strong relationships with our clients, our people, our community and our international contacts.

“2018/19 saw us deliver focused initiatives relating to client service delivery, diversity and inclusion, responsible business, and our international preferred firm network.”
