Accountancy, investment management and tax group Smith & Williamson has sponsored the newly-refurbished European Old Masters Gallery at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

More than Over 350 guests, including many clients and contacts of the firm, attended the launch reception and re-opening, with the focal point Rembrandt’s ‘Self Portrait at the Age of 63’ on loan from the National Gallery.

The gallery also features prestigious works by artists such as Lukas Cranach, Giovanni Bellini and Jacob van Ruisdael.

Smith & Williamson partner and head of private client tax services at the Bristol office Imogen Hilton-Brown, who is also a trustee of Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, said: “It was a proud moment watching the official opening of the European Old Masters Gallery knowing that Smith & Williamson had supported its refurbishment.

“Rembrandt’s masterpiece painted in 1669 at the end of his life proved a particular draw and a talking point for our guests, many of whom take a great interest in art and have been looking forward to revisiting the Old Masters in their new environment.”

Smith & Williamson’s private viewing for clients and associates of the firm was part of a wider event which included a champagne reception and talks by Bristol City Council head of culture Laura Pye, National Gallery director Gabriele Finaldi, and Dr Jenny Gaschke, curator of fine art at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
