Bristol-based specialist medical accountancy firm MW Medical, which advises GP practices and consultants, has become part of South West chartered accountants, tax consultants and financial planners Albert Goodman.

MW Medical will retain its trading name and continue to operate from its premises in Westbury-on-Trym. Albert Goodman said the move enhanced its range of specialist services to the healthcare sector while giving MW Medical the platform to serve a growing client base. All MW Medical’s nine staff have joined Albert Goodman.

Albert Goodman, which has a turnover of more than £14m, employs more than 300 staff across its offices in Bristol, Taunton, Chard, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Weston-super-Mare, Weymouth, Burnham-on-Sea and Wedmore.

Albert Goodman managing partner Richard Bugler said: “We have known MW Medical for some time, a firm that is recognised as a national expert in advising GP practices and consultants. They bring a great deal of experience to the table and together we are one of the largest groups of specialist healthcare sector accountants in the country. This breadth of experience will allow us to provide an unrivalled range of services to our clients in this specialised sector.

“This merger provides us with a great foothold into the Bristol marketplace, being well placed near Southmead Hospital and The Bristol Royal Infirmary, and we are delighted to add the Westbury-on-Trym office to our existing locations across the South West. As a member of both the Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants (AISMA) and the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants and Lawyers (NASDAL), we are well-equipped to serve the needs of the healthcare sector.”

Jim Duggan of MW Medical and a member of the national board of AISMA, who joins Albert Goodman as a partner, added: “We are all thrilled to merge with Albert Goodman, a distinguished and well-respected regional accountancy firm. The financial environment for healthcare professionals has become exceptionally complicated in recent years and with the range of resources Albert Goodman can provide, we look forward to providing our current and future clients with everything they need to navigate these challenging times.

“Albert Goodman already has a substantial client base across the care sector and our merger will mean we will be acting for over 100 GP and dental practices and over 1,000 individual GPs and consultants. This move provides MW Medical clients with additional in-house experts to work alongside their existing relationships. It will be very much business as usual, but with the added benefit of being able to take advantage of the complete range of services available from Albert Goodman.”
