South West PR agency Wild West Communications, which has an office in Bristol, has made a commitment to people and planet under its new managing director as it aims to become certified as a B Corporation.

B Corp businesses must meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability and aspire to use the power of markets to solve social and environmental problems.

The pledge to join the likes of ethical Bristol firms Triodos, Neighbourly and Pukka Herbs in gaining B Corp status has been made by Georgie Upton, pictured, as she takes up the MD role at Wild West Communications.

The agency’s passion for doing business in a way that benefits the greater good earned it an initial B Corp assessment score of 88.5 – not only smashing the 80-point bar for certification but achieving an ‘excelled’ rating in the people and governance metrics.

The rigorous assessment measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance.

Wild West now hopes to receive official B Corp certification in the coming months, proving that the business is meeting the highest standards of verified performance.

Georgie moves into the managing director role having played a major part in Wild West’s success over the past 11 years, with founder Kate Wild becoming CEO.

Georgie said: “B Corp certification is about ensuring we are doing business the right way – forever. We are lucky enough to have a brilliant team of talented people; we already have an ongoing commitment to the third sector, and our environmental responsibility has been the extra piece to the triple bottom line jigsaw of people, profit, planet.

“We have been inspired by many incredible brands that continue to prove that it is possible to operate a profitable business while caring for people and the planet.

“B Corp is also our way of bringing together all the extra great stuff we do. Every business needs to be strong, relevant and in touch with the requirements of the world today.

“Many of our business partners and clients are on their own purpose-led journey, and we are delighted to be on that road with them.

“We will continue to rigorously assess our business impact on the world, with an annual impact report to prove our ongoing commitment to people and planet.”

Cornwall-headquartered Wild West, whose clients include The Eden Project, Harbour Hotels, Pendennis superyachts and Falmouth University, has a teamed based in Bristol’s Origin Workspace serviced office and a sister agency, Wild Card in London.

More than 2,500 businesses around the world have been certified as B Corporations, with Bristol boasting the largest number in the UK outside London.
