The University of Bristol’s deputy director of finance, William Liew, will join UWE Bristol as its director of finance in November, where he will lead a strong finance team and become the Vice-Chancellor’s executive.

William, pictured, worked for accountants KPMG in London and Bristol before moving to the University of Bristol in 1992. He was promoted to deputy director in 2005 following a number of positions in the university's finance department.

He said: “This appointment is a fantastic new challenge for me. I relish the opportunity to join UWE Bristol and I’m looking forward to playing a key part in its future.”

The appointment is linked to the move by Bill Marshall, UWE’s assistant Vice-Chancellor: finance and commercial projects, to the role of pro Vice-Chancellor (commercial director and corporation secretary). He will join the Vice-Chancellor’s directorate to focus on the delivery of a number of medium and long-term commercial strategic priorities for the university.

UWE Vice-Chancellor professor Steve West added: “We are delighted to welcome William to this vitally important post within UWE Bristol’s senior management team. It is especially poignant for us that William studied for his MBA at UWE Bristol. He brings excellent experience of university financial management and will play an important part in overseeing the financial aspects of our ambitious masterplan.”
