The Bristol Shop, the first e-commerce site dedicated to products sold by the city’s independent traders and artists, has gone live.

It already sells more than 350 products from 50-plus designers, craft people, musicians and retailers – and hopes to have more than 2,000 items within months.

It will also be the first website to accept the Bristol Pound as a means of payment alongside the usual methods.

The shop was launched at a reception this week at the Royal West of England Academy attended by Mayor George Ferguson.

Co-founder Rudy Millard, who also runs the Guide2Bristol website, said: “Our aim is to allow the creative and business talents of Bristol to trade under one virtual roof.

“By increasing their profile and accessibility and promoting retail activity within the city, we will spread the word and bring more business to the city, as well as promoting all that’s great about Bristol to the UK and beyond.”

Among the independent businesses selling products through The Bristol Shop is Mabboo, the ethical bamboo clothing firm.
