Bristol-based specialist corporate finance advisory firm Shaw & Co has appointed Marcus Harrison as an executive in its mergers and acquisitions (M&A) division.

Marcus, pictured, joins from Saffery Champness, one of the UK’s oldest accountancy firms, where he was an auditor responsible for SME audits across a range of industries, business valuations, and non-audit assurance engagements including independent examinations of charities and Solicitors Regulation Authority compliance reviews.

A qualified chartered accountant with a background in financial due diligence and business sales and more than four years’ experience in financial services, Marcus will support Shaw & Co’s M&A division, which offers expert advice on all aspects of buying and selling a business, including management buy-outs, management buy-ins, mergers, exit strategies and business valuations.

The division has worked on a number of notable deals over recent years including the sale of Bristol-based ethical tea group Pukka Herbs to consumer giant Unilever, the purchase of discount codes firm VoucherCloud, also based in Bristol, from Vodafone and its subsequent sale to Groupon, and the sale of Manchester-based specialist software firm GoProposal to accounting software group Sage.

Marcus’s specific role at Shaw & Co will include preparing investment papers, reviewing and building accompanying financial models, and conducting market research to identify buyers, sellers and comparable transactions.

Shaw & Co head of M&A Rob Starr said: “Marcus is another great addition to our rapidly growing team.

“He will have a key role to play in supporting our strategy to really transform the quality of corporate advisory services being offered to SME owners across the UK who are looking to buy, sell or fund the growth of their business.”

Shaw & Co, which was founded by Jim Shaw in 2011, also offices in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.
