Specialist lender Aldermore has appointed John McDonnell as a new business development manager in residential mortgages covering the South West and Wales region.

John McDonnell, pictured, has worked in financial services for 15 years, most recently as managing director of Stamford Financial Services, where he spent the past seven years.

Aldermore group managing director, mortgages, Charles Haresnape said: “I’m delighted to welcome John to Aldermore, and his considerable experience working with intermediaries means he will bring a strong understanding of the needs and priorities of brokers to the role.”

John McDonnell added: “I’m excited to be joining Aldermore’s residential mortgages team, which has a good reputation in the South West and Wales and I’m looking forward to strengthening relationships with all introducers and intermediaries in the region in the months ahead.”

Aldermore opened a regional an invoice finance office in Bristol in 2012 – three years after the bank was set up by a group of investment funds. Its products are targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), homeowners and individuals, which it claims are underserved by traditional banks.

It has no branch network but serves customers and intermediary partners online, by phone and face to face through its network of regional offices.
