National law firm Bevan Brittan has boosted its energy & resource management group in Bristol by recruiting experienced energy and infrastructure lawyer Rupert Lugg as a partner.

Rupert, who previously worked at Bevan Brittan as a solicitor for two years between 2011 and 2013, is the market-leading group’s seventh appointment in 18 months.

He who will work on projects across the country has particular expertise in delivering innovative energy and transport projects which meet client’s net zero objectives.

This includes electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, district heating, green hydrogen and renewable energy projects.

Most recently he advised a client on the Celtic Interconnector project, a multi-million euro energy project designed to aggregate energy supply between Ireland and France.

Rupert has also worked in the Bristol head office of national law firm Burges Salmon, where he was a director, as well as at Pinsent Masons and Eversheds Sutherland Ireland in Dublin.

Bevan Brittan head of the energy & resource management group Nadeem Arshad said: “Rupert’s experience is a perfect addition to our team and clients. His in-depth knowledge of EV infrastructure, transport decarbonisation and new sectors such as green hydrogen, hugely complements our existing areas of strength.”

He said the team had never been busier, with increased demand for its expertise in solar farms, battery storage, district heating, energy efficiency and energy-from-waste.

“Our team is advising both public and private sector clients on some of the most significant projects in these sectors, such as some of the largest new solar farm developments in the UK,” he added.

The seven new arrivals to the group over the past 18 months have included partner Harriet Murray Jones, a leading renewable energy and property law specialist.

The group is recognised for its industry-leading expertise in the leading legal directories, including the latest edition of the Legal 500, which had a client testimonial that said: “The team comprises genuine leaders in their field.

“Its energy practice in particular is market leading. Individuals within the team go the extra mile to really ingratiate themselves within our business team and working with them is good fun.”

Bevan Brittan, which also has offices in Birmingham, Leeds and London, employs more than 530 staff and has 90-plus partners.
