Ben Tarrant, a real estate partner at Bristol-headquartered national law firm TLT, has been elected president of Bristol Law Society at its annual general meeting.

Ben has been on the society’s council and executive for the past three years and was a key part of the team which implemented and pushed through changes to modernise the society.

These have included introducing corporate rates, meaning all employees of member law firms, barristers chambers and businesses are automatically members of the society. This supports the council and executive's aim to expand and diversify and represent the whole legal sector.

Ben said: “In my new role I want to continue the focus on creating partnerships and engaging with the many groups within the legal sector.

“This includes in house lawyers, sole practitioners and government lawyers and other professional bodies such as the accountants, surveyors and bankers. I also want to get key decision makers and influencers in Bristol to talk and listen to the business and legal community.”

Bristol Law Society is governed by a president, two vice presidents, other officers and a council of solicitors drawn come from a variety of backgrounds, including large and small firms, in-house and private practice, covering all areas of legal work to reflect the profession as a whole.
