Bristol’s newly-launched Beerd Brewery is planning to shake up the beer market with a quest to offer drinkers the most interesting – and intriguing – pint around.

The brewery uses unusual ingredients such as chilli, liquorice and vanilla to ensure its beers stand out from the crowd, with each brew a limited edition.

Brewing began last month and so far more than a dozen beers have already been carefully created with experimental head brewer Shane O’Beirne at the helm.

Shane, pictured below, is on a mission to produce a medley of off-the-wall brews in his search for new, unusual and tasty combinations as demand for craft beer soars.

Shane said: “Beerd Brewery is out to redefine the rules and push the boundaries of craft beer as we know it.

“We want to expand the horizons of craft beer and are striving to create genuinely new and innovative beers. By combining international influences and flavours with traditional British brewing techniques we’re offering drinkers something unique and a taste profile that they won’t have enjoyed before.”

The first Beerd beers, ranging from 2.8% to 6.6% abv, have included Superweizen!, a Hefeweizen style beer with a banana aroma and a hint of clove, an American Brown Ale made with five malts and four hops, and Porters in a range of flavours including chilli, liquorice, vanilla, mint and almond.

An Indian Pale Ale with an intense hop flavour has also proved popular as well as the Big Small Beer, a low alcohol beer which is ideal for lunchtime meetings and has a floral, lychee aroma.

Galway-born Shane continued: “This year we’ve been involved with a number of new craft beer festivals taking off in the UK and Beerd beers are a natural next step for people looking for something new.”

The beers are available in the namesake craft and pizza bar in Bristol as well as selected pubs across the South West.

Beerd Brewery was born out of the eponymous destination craft beer and pizza bar in St Michael’s Hill in Bristol.

Run by Bath Ales and driven by an obsessive love for beer and a desire to create something a little different, Beerd beers are unmistakably Bristolian, but international at heart.
