Serial entrepreneur Mark Mason has taken a step back from his role as CEO of his innovative app developer Mubaloo to become its chairman.

Fast-growing Mubaloo, which is on course for its most successful year in 2015, has named Sarah Weller and Gemma Coles as joint managing directors and appointed them to its board of directors.

Mr Mason said: “Mubaloo has seen tremendous growth over the past six years, culminating in being ranked third in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 UK last year.

“Gemma and Sarah are the driving force behind Mubaloo’s recent growth. I know that they will continue to drive it forward into the future.”

He said he felt it was time to step back from the firm as his commitments outside Mubaloo have increased this year, including becoming non-executive director of Business West, governor of UWE, executive chairman of Bristol-based R&D tax credit consultancy ForrestBrown and chairman of The South West Leadership Group for The Princes Trust.

Growth at Mubaloo – the UK’s leading enterprise mobile consultancy and enterprise app developer – is being driven by a mixture of an expanded product and service offering and an increase in demand for complex enterprise apps and mobile consultancy from many of its FTSE 250 clients.

Over the past year it has won a number of high-profile accounts including Bang & Olufsen, London Air Ambulance, building materials company Hanson UK and specialist software firm Equiniti.

Gemma Coles said: “Mark is still very much involved with the overall strategy and company direction, but will be able to focus more on his other interests and investments.

“I am delighted to take on this new role at this exciting time for the business. Over the past year, we have focused on growing the Mubaloo team to meet demand from the companies we work with.

“We have continued to grow our partner programme to help drive enterprise mobility into more industries and utilise the right technology. This is allowing us to help companies in new and innovative ways, by tightly aligning mobile with business strategy. We are seeing this in the scope of projects we are working on and the increased need for businesses to seek efficiency improvements through mobilising processes.”

The decision to have two managing directors means Sarah Weller will focus on commercial growth and industry positioning while Gemma Coles is focused on quality and efficiencies within Mubaloo’s delivery team.

Mark Mason was previously founder of Bristol specialist marketing agency Mason Zimbler and has created a number of other businesses in the city.
