Further growth is planned at Bristol-based specialist R&D tax credit consultancy ForrestBrown this year as it prepares to take on more than 40 new staff and expand its tax associate programme.

The firm, which became the UK’s largest business of its kind in 2018 just five years after its launch and now employs 88 staff, is also looking to move to a larger office in Bristol to accommodate its growth having run out of space in its Whiteladies Road base.

ForrestBrown said the new roles would be for specialist tax advisers, sector specialists, lawyers and ex-HMRC inspectors.

It will also recruit 16 new associates in two intakes in April and during the summer. The firm launched its successful tax associate training programme last year when it supported 28 team members in their professional qualifications.

During a bumper 2018, the firm delivered more than £100m in R&D tax credits to innovative clients across the UK and celebrated its fifth birthday by opening a London office. It also launched the ForrestBrown forest in association with TREE AID – planting a tree in Africa for every claim that it completes.

It was also named by The Sunday Times as the number one company to work for in the South West, ranking 47th best small company to work for in the UK, and also picked up a number of accolades including being named best independent consultancy firm by Tolley’s Taxation Awards 2018.

Founder and managing director Simon Brown said: “We take great pride in investing in our people and are therefore delighted to be expanding our team in 2019. Our associate training programme has proven to be a great success, and I look forward to adding more trainees to our ranks.

“With this in mind, we are currently looking to move offices in Bristol to ensure we have the space to accommodate our growing team.

“I am really proud of our success in the last year. We love helping our clients grow, and so delivering £100m for them to invest back into their innovation this year is incredibly rewarding. At the same time, we’ve doubled the size of our team and won Taxation’s prestigious ‘best independent consultancy firm’ in recognition of our technical excellence and client service.”

Last spring ForrestBrown became a wholly owned subsidiary of alliantgroup, the premier provider of tax credits and incentives in the US.
