National wealth management and professional services group Evelyn Partners has appointed John Howarth as audit partner in its Bristol office.

John, pictured with Evelyn Partners’ Bristol office head Helen Bassett, has mainly focused during his career on advising dynamic mid-market businesses across a range of sectors.

He has extensive experience of working with ‘big four’ accountancy firms having been a partner for more than eight years at EY, seven of them in its Bristol office.

Prior to that he was at PwC, including six years based in New Zealand, and most recently spent eight months as director of group finance at Bath-headquartered global media group Future.

Evelyn Partners head of assurance & business services Sancho Simmonds said: “I’m delighted to welcome John to our fast-growing audit practice.

“His extensive experience working with dynamic mid-market businesses aligns well with the significant growth ambitions we have as a firm across our national audit practice.”

Helen Bassett, professional services managing partner in Evelyn Partners’ Bristol office, added: “John is a significant addition to our local team and joins our Bristol office at an exciting time as we prepare to re-locate to prestigious new EQ premises in the city later this year.

“I am very much looking forward to working closely with John as we continue with our regional growth, focussing on supporting even more clients across the South West.”

John said it had been important to him to chose a firm whose values and ambitions matched his own.

“Right from the start, Evelyn impressed me with their culture – by putting people first. I am looking forward to working with such a talented team and being able to support the exciting private companies based in the South West”.

Evelyn Partners’ Bristol office provides a range of services, including financial planning, investment management and tax advice, to help clients manage their personal and business financial affairs.

The firm was formed just under two years ago following the merger of Smith & Williamson with Tilney.

With assets under management of £59.1bn, it is one the largest UK wealth managers and is also the UK’s seventh largest accountancy firm ranked by fee income.
