Mentoring scheme for creatives launched by recruitment firm to mark a year in business

Recruitment and HR consultancy Moxie and Mettle is celebrating its first birthday by launching a mentoring initiative.

Called ‘Your Moxie Coach’ the scheme aims to support professionals by drawing on the expertise of specialist career and professional coaches.

Anyone – not just current or prospective candidates – can be referred to one of the company’s recommended coaches for additional support at all stages of their professional career and across all disciplines, sectors and job titles.

Pill-based Moxie and Mettle places permanent, temporary, freelance and contract professionals into roles throughout the UK in the marketing, PR, communications, digital and creative industries.

Having worked together in a range of roles for 20 years, founders Liz Gadd and Becs Hodgson have always shared a passion for finding skilled talent for businesses and exciting roles for candidates.

They decided to join forces last year to form a recruitment business that meets the changing needs of the creative and marketing/PR sectors.

The business has experienced fast growth and now includes a six-strong team with more than 85 years’ combined experience between them in recruitment and HR.

Liz Gadd said: “Flexible working is something we are championing, including part-time roles, flexible locations, homeworking and job shares; the employment market is changing and we are advising clients on how to respond to ensure they remain competitive to the talent they want to attract.

“‘Moxie’ and ‘mettle’ means strength, determination, bravery, boldness, energy and courage, which is why we chose the name for our company; we’re seeking to interview talented candidates who can embody the definition of these words which underpin the values of the business.”

The Moxie and Mettle team takes pride in developing strong relationships with candidates and clients – this sets the business apart in a sector which is often criticised for being too focused on sales commissions for placements.

“For decades, we’ve seen agencies trying to automate recruitment by using computers to scan CVs, effectively treating candidates – people – like commodities.

“Sorting applicants by keyword is never a substitute for a friendly phone conversation with both candidates and clients. Automation can lead to perfectly good candidates being overlooked because they didn’t happen to plug the right search term into their CV. People hire people, and this is why we like to get to know our candidates and clients really well.”

“Often, we are approached by people looking for career advice which is actually beyond the usual remit of a recruiter. However, at Moxie and Mettle, we’re always looking for ways we can add value to the recruitment experience and that’s why we’ve launched ‘Your Moxie Coach’.

“We can introduce candidates to specialist career coaches who will be able to give practical career guidance.”

The company’s roster of blue-chip businesses includes Oak Furniture Land, Mantis PR, AMBITIOUS PR and Copper.
