Marathon men prepare for feat of endurance – to the power of three

Three Bristol personal fitness trainers are taking up their own tough personal challenge this weekend – running three marathons in three days to raise £3,000 for charity.

Chris Greigs, David Rees and Steve Threadgold, who own Oakfields PT in Clifton, will cover a gruelling total of 78.6 miles along the coastal path in Cornwall, starting tomorrow from Padstow and finishing at Land’s End on Sunday.

By completing the Atlantic Coast Challenge, the super-fit trio hope to raise as much money as possible for Bristol’s Above & beyond charity which supports the city’s Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, where Chris’s wife has worked for more than 10 years.

The three, who have two small children apiece, have spent the past few months desperately trying to fit in their own training schedule around their busy lives to be in peak fitness for this weekend’s feat.

David is a former England rugby international while Chris began his fitness career at leisure and fitness group David Lloyd before going freelance and then launching Oakfields with his partners in January last year.

They have staged a pub quiz evening for clients, raffles and a competition to ‘guess the time the three cross the finish line’ to bring in money and this week Chris and Steve dyed their hair blond to net further funds.

Chris said: “We are now well on the way to raising £3,000. We chose Above & Beyond because these people are saving lives every day.”

The three plan to support and encourage each other during the weekend and hope to cross the finishing line together. It will be the first time Chris and David have run a marathon – let alone three in three days – so Steve, who started marathon-running in the mid-90s, will help to set the pace.

All three are experienced in sports rehab as well as fitness and strength training – so they will be in safe hands if there are any sprains, strains or injuries along the way.
