Dutch technology firm Prime Vision, which specialises in optical character recognition (OCR) systems for mail and parcel companies, has opened a UK office to support what it describes as its “booming” business.

The office, at Aztec West, will act as a meeting venue and training centre for up to 30 staff and will initially be a base for Prime Vision’s support, project management and installation teams working on UK projects.

It will also house sales, support and project management staff supporting its UK clients. It opened a similar office in Sydney, Australia, earlier this year as part of its international expansion.

The firm said permanent staff numbers in Bristol will grow as it wins new business. It has already introduced a graduate training internship programmes for the office.

Prime Vision, which has its roots in the Dutch post office, develops recognition technologies that speed up the handling of letters and packages in the postal system. It has won a number of major contracts in the UK in recent years.

The firm decided to open its UK office in Bristol as around 90% of its UK clients are within two hours’ drive time of Bristol. Its location close to Bristol Airport also means staff can easily travel to its headquarters and development hub at Delft, between Rotterdam and The Hague.

Prime Vision head of marketing Mark Ryder said: “Prime Vision has become hugely successful in the UK market because it offers a unique combination of talents.”
